Legal Info (For getting married in Luxembourg)
To get married in Luxembourg, you and your partner will need to provide the following documents to the civil registrar's office in the commune where at least one of you resides:
  1. Proof of Identity: A valid passport or identity card for each partner.
  1. Birth Certificates: Full copies of both partners' birth certificates, including parents' names, issued within the last six months.
  1. Proof of Residence: If you're not legally domiciled in Luxembourg, a residence certificate or other evidence of residence issued within the last three months.
  1. Certificate of Single Status: For Luxembourg nationals, a recent copy of the birth certificate suffices. Foreign nationals may need a certificate of legal capacity to marry or equivalent documentation from their country of origin.
Additional documents may be required in specific circumstances:
  • Previous Marriages: If divorced, provide the previous marriage certificate(s) with mention of divorce or the divorce judgment(s).
  • Widowed Individuals: Provide the death certificate of the previous spouse.
  • Children to Be Legitimized: If you have children born before the marriage, provide their birth certificates.
All documents must be in French, German, or English. If not, they should be translated by a sworn translator. Documents issued abroad may also require legalization or an apostille, depending on their country of origin.
It's advisable to contact the civil registrar's office in your commune well in advance to confirm the specific requirements and ensure all necessary documents are prepared.
